Water is an essential ingredient of all living creatures. Today, water is a portable, on-the-go fluid product. Everywhere you turn people are sporting their water bottles. Consumers understand the benefits of hydrating with water. If you take a look around you, most people are drinking from plastic bottles. Metal and stainless steel water vessels have been added to the mix. The water bottle is our 21st century accessory and most of the packaging is plastic. Ditch the Plastic But there is a movement to reverse the number of plastics by switching to Eco friendly glass bottles. Over the last decade, the desire to reduce our carbon footprint and green our living space have pushed manufacturers to clean up the containers used to sell water. The environmental impact of millions of plastic bottles resting in landfills with the life expectancy of “an eternity” is daunting, but that’s not the only reason to remove plastics. Bisphenol A or BPA for short is an industrial chemical used in the commercial packaging of our food and water. The 1960’s Revisited BPA is applied to produce certain plastics and resins going back to the 1960’s. BPA shows up in polycarbonate plastics which are produced by commercial manufacturing to package foods and beverages. Epoxy resins are used to line metal products such as food cans, bottle tops and water supply lines. Scientists suggest that these commercial plastics and resins leach BPA under certain conditions. Further studies suggest possible health side effects of BPA on the brain, behavior and prostate gland of fetuses, infants and children.
