Medical Marijuana in Arizona – What the Law Says

Despite being legal for a few years now, many patients prescribed medical marijuana may not know what they can get legally from a dispensary. Ongoing debates and changes to recreational drug laws only make it all the more confusing. This quick guide will tell you where to find a legal marijuana dispensary and what you are entitled to by Arizona state law.

1. Legal Suppliers

Just as with any type of medicine, you can only get medical marijuana from a legal supplier such as The Nirvana Center. This is to ensure that patients can only take the legal amount they are allowed and to prevent unsafe or contaminated products from entering the market. All dispensaries in Phoenix are required by law to provide customers with details of all of their products such as where it was grown and what chemicals it contains. If you are uncertain or worried, simply ask.

2. Medical Marijuana Card

The only way to get the drug from a dispensary is with a medical marijuana card approved by your physician. You can fill out the form from the Arizona Department of Health Service’s website. Arizona currently doesn’t accept cards from out of state, because drug laws vary by state.

3. Qualifying Condition

Recreational marijuana is currently not legal in Arizona so in order to get it from medical marijuana dispensaries, you must show that you have a qualifying condition such as HIV, cancer, or PTSD. Leafly has a full list of qualifying conditions by state.

If you are uncertain about taking medical marijuana safely within the law, check with a trusted supplier or with the state’s health website to see what the law says. So long as you take all of the right steps, you may find that the drug may work for you with no dangerous side effects.
