Reuse, Renew with Eco Friendly Glass Bottles

Water is an essential ingredient of all living creatures. Today, water is a portable, on-the-go fluid product. Everywhere you turn people are sporting their water bottles. Consumers understand the benefits of hydrating with water. If you take a look around you, most people are drinking from plastic bottles. Metal and stainless steel water vessels have been added to the mix. The water bottle is our 21st century accessory and most of the packaging is plastic.

Ditch the Plastic
But there is a movement to reverse the number of plastics by switching to Eco friendly glass bottles. Over the last decade, the desire to reduce our carbon footprint and green our living space have pushed manufacturers to clean up the containers used to sell water. The environmental impact of millions of plastic bottles resting in landfills with the life expectancy of “an eternity” is daunting, but that’s not the only reason to remove plastics. Bisphenol A or BPA for short is an industrial chemical used in the commercial packaging of our food and water.

The 1960’s Revisited
BPA is applied to produce certain plastics and resins going back to the 1960’s. BPA shows up in polycarbonate plastics which are produced by commercial manufacturing to package foods and beverages. Epoxy resins are used to line metal products such as food cans, bottle tops and water supply lines. Scientists suggest that these commercial plastics and resins leach BPA under certain conditions. Further studies suggest possible health side effects of BPA on the brain, behavior and prostate gland of fetuses, infants and children. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports that low levels of BPA are safe based on a review of hundreds of studies but their research is still on-going.

Renew, Reuse & Recycle
What can I do? Take steps to reduce your exposure to BPA and epoxy resins. First, put down the plastic and upgrade to a glass water vessel. Cut back on canned foods by selecting fresh produce. Avoid microwaving food in plastic containers; or placing dirty containers in the dishwasher. Both processes will accelerate the leaching process of polycarbonate. If water has an unpleasant odor or aftertaste that’s a sign that something is seeping into your drink.

Infinite Uses with Glass
Why should I consider glass as an alternative beverage vessel? If you want to be kind to the earth and your health, the answer is glass. Glass bottles are reusable, dishwasher safe and produce no chemical exposure. Glass is inert and made from all natural materials. The benefits of using a glass vessel include:

1. Better Taste
2. Health Benefits
3. Dishwasher Safe
4. Environmentally Friendly

Commercial manufacturers are doing a better job by producing BPA-free plastics for on the go water consumption. But consider the environment and do your part by reducing the pile up of plastic in our landfills.
