What is Anti Wear Hydraulic Oil and Why Is It Important?

Anti wear hydraulic oil is critical to the operation of hydraulic machinery; without it, that machinery would not function for long, and critical operations that depend upon it would not be completed. Learn more about what anti wear hydraulic oil is and why it is important below.

Anti Wear Hydraulic Oil: What It Does and Why It Is Important

This oil is critical to the operation of hydraulic machinery and systems because this oil is the non-compressible medium that creates and transfers energy within the machinery itself. There are both mineral-based and synthetic versions of this oil. Without this type of oil, the machinery cannot create and transfer the energy that is needed to perform the function it was designed to do. As a result, the hydraulic system is unable to perform the tasks it was created for.

Importance of Operating Temperature and Different Ratings

The correlation of temperature on hydraulic oils is important; this type of oil gets thicker in colder weather, which delays the creation and transfer of energy needed for the machinery to do its work. In warmer weather, the oil is runnier, which leads to a quicker creation and transfer of that energy.

There are different ratings of this oil; the three most common ratings are AW68, AW46, and AW32. The latter works best in colder weather versus the other two because it is inherently more viscous, thus enabling a better creation and transfer of energy. Conversely, the AW68 would be the worst option in colder weather because it is less viscous than the other two options.
